PBL 4 Trigger

PBL 4
TRIGGER 1

Puan FBA, a 35-year old Malay lady was admitted to the medical ward of the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) with persistent fever, chronic diarrhoea and weight loss over the last 3 months. She is 24 weeks pregnant.


Student's tasks:

1. Find out the meaning of any difficult word/terminology.
2. Identify the chief complaint(s).
3. Enumerate the possible causes of the chief complaint(s).
4. What further information you would need regarding the patient and her ailments in order to help you to draw closer to the possible diagnosis? List them down.

PBL 3 YEAR 1 BLOCK 2 2010/2011

TRIGGER 1

Puan M, a 28-year old Malay housewife was referred to the Psychiatry Clinic, Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) by her General Practitioner for further treatment of withdrawn behaviour for 3 days duration.


STUDENTS’ TASKS

1) Are there any terms that you do not understand?

2) What is withdrawn behaviour?

3) You should be able to identify the main problem/problems in patient’s chief complaint and explain how it causes the symptoms. Build a hypothesis and the underlying mechanism involved.

4) You should discuss on further history that you would like to know in helping you to make a provisional diagnosis.
